Chinese telecommunications operator China Unicom has announced its development schedule for 3G — the company will put forward a WCDMA equipment tender in January 2009, start network construction in February and formally open the network on May 17.

Chinese telecom manufacturer ZTE has published a report saying the company has signed two CDMA network construction contracts with China Telecom (CHA).

Although the final result for its second-round TD-SCDMA tender has not come out yet, China Mobile (CHL) has now started its planning for the third-round TD-SCDMA deployment and the company will reportedly set up TD-SCDMA networks in 162 Chinese cities.

An insider at China Unicom (CHU) has revealed that the company will start its WCDMA equipment tender on September 26, 2008.
