Beijing To Build 1,200 4G Base Stations By End Of 2013

Liu Dianfeng, deputy general manager of China Mobile Beijing branch, said during the 2013 Smart City Summit that the company plans to build and complete 1,200 4G network base stations by the end of 2013.

Meanwhile, they will start the deployment of TD-FI devices on buses, allowing local citizens to experience the 4G network with Wi-Fi functions of mobile phones.

According to Liu, the TD-FI devices can access both 3G and 4G networks. In the future, passengers will be able to enjoy the free-of-charge WLAN wireless network with their portable laptops, smartphones, or iPads by accessing the TD-FI devices on the buses.

Liu said following the deployment on buses, the TD-FI devices will enter more public places like subways and department stores. Depending on the 1,200 4G base stations, users will conveniently use the high-speed 4G network services. The download speed of 4G network is reportedly 30 to 40 times faster than the 3G network while maintaining a stable download in a mobile situation.
