China Mobile Net Profit Up 2.3% In 2009

Chinese telecom operator China Mobile has published its annual financial report for 2009, stating that its operating revenue increased by 9.8% year-on-year to CNY452.103 billion, while its net profit increased by 2.3% year-on-year to CNY115.166 billion.

The report said China Mobile's profit rate reached 25.5% in 2009; its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization reached CNY229.023 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%; its profit rate of EBIDTA was 50.7%; and its earnings per share were CNY5.74, an increase of 2.2% compared with the previous year.

For the user sector, China Mobile gained 65.03 million new users in 2009, reaching a total number of 522 million. During the entire year of 2009, the total communication time via China Mobile's network were about 2.919 trillion minutes, with minutes of usage (average monthly communication time per user) of 494 minutes and average revenue per user of CNY77.

The company's value-added services continued to develop last year and made more obvious contributions to its overall income. In 2009, China Mobile's revenue from the value-added services increased by 16% year-on-year and accounted for 29.1% of its total revenue.

For the 3G sector, the second- and third-phase projects of its TD-SCDMA networks had been completed, covering 238 cities across China. By the end of December 2009, China Mobile had gained 3.41 million 3G users.
