Chinese Telecom Operators Core Business Revenue Up 5% In January 2010

According to the report on the performance of China's communications industry for January 2010 published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on its official website, the country's telecom operators completed total business volume of CNY231.25 billion, a year-on-year increase of 21.6%; while their revenue from core businesses increased by 5% year-on-year to CNY66.97 billion.

During the first month of 2010, China saw a net increase of 7.29 million phone users, reaching a total number of 1.07 billion. However, the number of its fixed line phone users decreased by 1.93 million to 311.75 million, including 43.66 million wireless local phone users.

At the same time, the number of China's mobile phone users increased by 9.22 million to 756.60 million; and the number of broadband users of basic telecom operators increased by 1.91 million to 105.13 million.

Revenue from mobile communications sector increased by 10% year-on-year to CNY44.03 billion, accounting for 65.74% of telecom operators' core business revenue; and revenue from fixed line communications sector decreased by 3.3% year-on-year to CNY22.94 billion, accounting for 34.26% of the core business revenue.

By region, China's telecom core business revenue in eastern, middle, and western areas increased by 6.1%, 7.6%, and 10.4%, respectively, compared with the same period of 2009.
