A total of 23 billion short messages were sent in China during the 2010 Chinese New Year holiday, which was an average of 30.8 wireless messages sent per person based on the 747 million mobile phone users in the country.

Data released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that SMS sent during the 2010 Spring Festival holiday was an increase of 10% over the same period of 2009, and messages sent on the New Year's Eve and the New Year's Day reached as many as 13 billion.

During the holiday, Multimedia Messaging Service saw a big increase. Statistics show that a total of 1.33 billion MMS were sent during the seven-day holiday, which was an increase of 40% over the same period of last year.

In addition to sending short messages, many people chose to send oral greetings to their friends and relatives, but they did this in a mobile manner. It is said that during the Spring Festival holiday, the mobile voice service of China's three major mobile service operators — China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom — increased by 127.6%, 19.5% and 15.7%, respectively.
