China's ZTE Sold 14.2 Million Mobile Phones In Q3 2009

According to ZTE's latest performance report for the third quarter of 2009, the company sold 14.2 million mobile phones during the period, a year-on-year increase of 38%, and its sales nearly equaled those of Sony Ericsson, the fifth largest mobile phone maker in the world.

At the same time, ZTE reported sales increase of 42% during the first three quarters of 2009. Of the total incomes, about 25% were contributed by its mobile phone sector.

The performances of its 3G terminals were remarkable. For TD-SCDMA, the company gained over 40% share of the TD-SCDMA network interface card market in China; and its first TD-SCDMA in-depth customized mobile phone, U210, was sold in 40 cities, with market share of 27.4%. For CDMA, ZTE gained an order of one million 3G mobile phones from China Telecom in August 2009, accounting for one-quarter of the CDMA operator's total orders. For WCDMA, the company gained an order of 340,000 mobile phones from China Unicom in September 2009, covering low-, medium-, and high-end products. Of the total purchase orders of the three Chinese telecom operators, ZTE gained 27%.

By previous reports published by ZTE, the company showed it made revenue of CNY5.5 billion from its mobile phone businesses in the first half of 2009, an increase of 29.8% compared with the same period of last year.
