Ericsson has gained a contract from China Telecom to upgrade the operator's backbone network in the Yangtze River Delta area with its 40 Gbps DWDM optical transmission solution.

Under the contract, Ericsson will use its 40 Gbps DWDM solution, the MHL 3000 series, to upgrade China Telecom's 10G DWDM network connecting Yangtze River Delta cities such as Shanghai, Nanjing, and Hangzhou.

The deliveries will start in the third quarter of 2009 and the upgraded network is expected to put into commercial use before the end of this year. On the completion of the upgrade, the transmission capacity of China Telecom's network will be expanded by four times, which can not only meet the fast-growing broadband bandwidth demand, but also can ensure the superior bandwidth utilization and quality of services for subscribers in this region.
