China Mobile has inked deals with ten Chinese and overseas mobile phone manufacturers to develop Ophone, a mobile phone product based on China Mobile's Open Mobile System.

According to local Chinese media reports, the ten companies reportedly are Lenovo, Dell, Dopod, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Yulong Coolpad, ZTE, Hisense, and TCL. Of these companies, ZTE will launch its OMS-based TD-SCDMA mobile phone products in the fourth quarter of 2009.

The Open Mobile System is a mobile phone operating system developed by China Mobile's subsidiary, Borqs Communication Technology (Beijing) Company. The system is based on the Linux platform and adopts the source code of Google's Android, featuring services such as China Mobile's Fetion instant messaging service, 139 email box, wireless music, and mobile phone navigation.
