Wireless Network Deployment Planned Across 29 Chinese Cities

Wireless broadband firm ChinaTel Group Inc. says it will deploy a high speed wireless broadband telecommunications network across 29 cities in China by the end of this year.

"Full 3.5GHz wireless broadband deployment will continue in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Nanjing with the first phase of the build out to be operational by the end of the fourth quarter of 2009," stated Mario Alvarez, chief operating officer of ChinaTel.

The remaining 24 cities, which comprise phases two through six, will begin as a partial deployment to be operational within the next two years in Dalian, Qingdao, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Harbin, Shenyang, Jinan, Fuzhou, Chongqing, Changsha, Haikou, Xiamen, Ningbo, Xian, Changchun, Shijiazhuang, Taiyuan, Zhengzhou, Nanchang, Nanning, Lanzhou, Guiyang and Kunming. In parallel with its deployment path, ChinaTel will continue to develop core applications that will complement the high speed wireless broadband network.

ChinaTel is building the network with CECT-Chinacomm Communications. With headquarters in Beijing, ChinaComm has already set up branch offices covering key cities in China, including Qingdao, Wuhan, Xiamen, Nanjing, Chongqing, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, and it provides telecommunication services such as system integration, technology development, technical services, information consulting, equipment production and sales, and country-wide Internet cafe services.
