Huawei Deploys First 4G Commercial Network In Norway

2009-01-20 by ChinaWirelessNews.com Editor | Print | Email Email

Chinese telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies has announced that the company has won a contract from TeliaSonera, one of the largest telecommunications operators in the Nordic and Baltic regions, to deploy the world's first LTE commercial network in Oslo, the capital of Norway.

According to the contract, Huawei will provide end-to-end LTE solutions to TeliaSonera, including base stations, core network, operating support system and network planning and implementation.

Lars Klasson, senior vice president and CTO for the Mobile Business Department of TeliaSonera, says that by 2010, the customers of TeliaSonera will be able to enjoy the new mobile broadband services based on its advanced mobile network. The company has chosen Huawei as its partner, because of Huawei's leading position in LTE technologies and its deployment capabilities. The company is glad to work together with Huawei to deploy the LTE network.

Yu Chengdong, president for Huawei European region, says that Huawei is excited to help TeliaSonera to deploy the world's first LTE commercial network. Huawei has been committed to the research of LTE commercial use solutions as well as promoting the development of LTE mobile network.

Huawei says the company has been actively promoting the commercial use of LTE network and continues to provide telecommunications operators with competitive solutions, making it a leader of the next-generation mobile communications technologies.

In April 2008, Huawei displayed its WCDMA/LTE and CDMA/LTE dual-mode solutions based on the fourth-generation base stations at the CTIA Wireless 2008. In October 2008, it became the world's first telecommunications equipment provider that successfully completed the LTE multi-user mobile test, after which, the downlink summit rate of Huawei's LTE network reached 173Mbit/s, setting a new record for the wireless transmission.
