Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture Radio Film and TV has announced that starting yesterday, the Orient Pearl Tower has begun to broadcast six channels of digital standard-definition TV programs and one digital high-definition TV program channel.

With a set-top box or a TV with built-in digital reception function, Shanghai residents can receive programs on CCTV 1; a news channel and fashion channel of Shanghai TV station; an entertainment channel and art channel of Shanghai Dragon TV; Shanghai Education Television Station; and the high definition channel of CCTV. All the digital programs are free.

Compared with wireless analog television, ground wireless digital TV can produce clearer and more stable pictures and can receive signals while moving. In the covered regions, the quality of pictures will not be affected by transmission distance or by noise.
