Chinese telecom operators have launched special channel for consumers to report abusive or illegal content they receive as short text messages.

China Mobile asks users to forward the spam messages they receive to 10086999 or dial 10086 to report, or call their local police department. China Unicom asks users to call their service hotline 10109696 to report any complaints.

China's Ministry of Information Industry also says that the telecom management department will punish anyone who hindered normal communications during the May holiday and asked each valued-added telecom service operators to avoid pricing inconsistencies, false advertising and cheating.

In the first quarter of this year, complaints on telecom service quality accounted for 36.8% of the total complaints received by the operators. This was 1.4% less than the previous quarter, and the main complaints were about unwanted advertising and harassment.
