2007-03-15 by ChinaWirelessNews.com Editor | Print | Email Email

China Unicom (CHU), which has tested WiMAX for about a year, has now formally initiated the scaled construction of its WiMAX network.

China Unicom recently held a special meeting, evaluating the results of its WiMAX tests and has issued some documents related to the construction of WiMAX network and a list of recommended WiMAX manufacturers to each of its provincial affiliates.

Both Datang and Potevia have appeared on China Unicom's list of recommended WiMAX equipment manufacturers. China Unicom previously concluded that WiMAX is a fixed wireless broadband access system with excellent communications effect that can help it solve its shortage of resource.

However, China Unicom has not disclosed such details as the scale, positioning and speed rate of WiMAX network to be constructed.
