MII's Mobile Phone Real Name System Causes Disputes

2005-11-28 by ChinaWirelessNews.com Editor | Print | Email Email

The real name registration system which the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) has planned for mobile phone users has already caused disputes among consumers.

MII is expecting to implement the real name system by the end of this year and currently is collecting public feedback for it.

Some local media report that users say that the real name system is a step back for China's mobile phone industry which has just started to remove itself from government supervision.

Beijing Daily reports says that telecom operators may raise the threshold for migrant workers to access the mobile network after the real name system is adopted now that some provinces have already asked migrants to pay deposits or have a local permanent residents as their sponsors when they apply for mobile phone service.
