Lucent Technologies today announced a multi-million dollar contract with Jiangsu Telecom, a provincial subsidiary of China Telecom, to provide optical networking equipment that will be used to expand Jiangsu Telecom's optical transmission network in Jiangsu province.

Lucent will supply the LambdaUnite Multi-Service Switch (MSS) and Navis Optical Management System (OMS), as well as technical support provided by Lucent Worldwide Services. The solution will be used to build a next-generation intelligent optical transmission platform to support voice and data traffic in Jiangsu Province. The intelligent control plane on the LambdaUnite MSS will allow Jiangsu Telecom to turn up its network as new network elements are added, and it also gives Jiangsu the ability to offer differentiated end-customer services with different levels of protection able to be provisioned flexibly for each service.
